Dharma Rain - Stillpoint
Kinhin
by a member of the EOCI Sangha
Stepping on to this plank
this floor board
of teak
From a great tree, from a great forest
where tigers roam.
One of myriads in a great temple
Polished, heavy and dark
with width, thickness and length.
Where ever I am on this plank
it is the same. I am born.
A warrior-king has captured the temple
and demands, “Tell me, o monk, tell me the measure of time!”
As I cannot articulate the board
his swordsman removes my head
(I wasn’t using it anyway)
Stepping off the floor, I die.
