Bright Way Zen

Empty Field Farm Zendo and Zen West

Retreats and seasonal weekly meditation are held at the Empty Field Zendo, a rustic retreat located on a small organic farm in Oregon’s coast range. Zen West is an affiliated group that meets on Thursday evenings in Eugene. It offers an intimate setting for lay practitioners exploring the wisdom of the Zen tradition within a Western awareness of psychology and social responsibility. Contact Seido for more information:

Hood River Meetings

The Hood River sitting group meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays for meditation, with a monk from Portland visiting once a month. See their website for more information, or contact the Center.

 

Valley Zen Circle

 

Valley Zen Circle is open to the public every week on Thursday evenings in the spacious lower level of Christ’s Church, 412 Clay Street in Monmouth, Oregon. See their web site for more information.

Sandy Sangha

Sandy Meditation and Discussion Group: Wednesdays, Mt. Hood Hospice Office, 39641 Scenic Street, Sandy. Please come to the west entrance. 5:30pm Meditation hall open. You are welcome to come and sit. 6:30-7pm sitting meditation (zazen).
7-8pm Tea, reading and discussion.

Prison Sanghas

Dharma Rain conducts an active prison program in several locations, listed below.

Oregon State Penitentiary

This group meets every first and third Tuesday evening with the OSP sangha. The evening includes zazen and a short service followed by class and discussion. Getsushin, Gyoshi, and Chisho regularly go in to OSP. On fifth Tuesdays, Getsushin meets with men who request personal meetings.

Coffee Creek Correctional Facility

Medium: Friday evenings 7-9pm. Includes zazen, class and discussion, and check-in. Currently facilitated by Genko, with Getsushin, Deborah Gant, and Jungyo assisting.
Minimum: 2nd, 4th, and 5th Mondays 7-9pm. Includes check-in, zazen, class and discussion, and a brief closing service. Currently facilitated by Genko, with assistance from Deborah Gant and Jungyo.

MacLaren Youth

1st and 3rd Tuesday evenings. Zazen and study. Dochin has recently resurrected this group, and could use some help.

Eastern Oregon Correctional Facility

Mugaku facilitates a group in this facility every Sunday morning 8:30-11am.

Two Rivers Correctional Facility

Mugaku meets with this sangha every Wednesday evening 6:30-8:30pm.

Columbia River Correctional Institution

This group is meeting the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Saturdays of the month. Genko leads this group, with Daicho, Guy Berliner, and Tracy Groom assisting.

Sister Sanghas

Zen Community of Oregon

Zen Community of Oregon formerly operated a regular city program (Heart of Wisdom Zen Temple) at the Portland Dharma Center (DRZC’s Zendo), and now has its own space at 6401 NE 10th Avenue in Portland. Zen Community of Oregon also operates Great Vow Zen Monastery in Clatskanie. The monastery offers monthly sesshins as well as weekend retreats throughout the year.

 

Eugene Zendo
